Catalog Description
Studies the use and underlying principles of database management systems, and approaches for database design with an emphasis on the relational approach, including using good design techniques and implementation methods for both small and large databases and data warehouses. Laboratory use of database software for designing, implementing, and maintaining database systems is an integral part of this course.
Prerequisite(s)
CSCI 2020 with a C or better
Course Outcomes
- Design ER and Extended ER diagrams based on database specifications.
- Understand and create relational databases.
- Design and implement complex queries, and updates using ISO standard SQL.
- Understand and implement data loading and extract-transform-load processes.
- Understand and utilize a data warehouse.
- Design and query NoSQL databases
- Understand and explain the Big Data storage strategies and the MapReduce programming model.
