Catalog Description

Develops the ability to apply process automation, pattern-matching, and file manipulation through hands-on scripting tasks, using light-weight code to provide interoperability between disparate systems and platforms.

Prerequisite(s)

CSCI 2200 and CSCI 3500, each with a C- or better

Course Outcomes

  • Teach people to script in three major contemporary "scripting" languages: Python, bash, and Windows PowerShell
  • Time permitting, touch on DOSshell: a pervasive legacy language.
  • Teach people about the use of scripting in computer security: largely, in effective system administration.
